Does Sonic Producer Pro Suck?

Well I finally broke down to see what the fuss was about concerning Sonic Producer Pro. If you don’t know, Sonic Producer Pro is an online drum machine and music production system. You can create your own beats and music all online and then save your creations to your hard drive to use in the studio or sell. In a nutshell it’s an online drum machine with musical loops that allow you to create songs or just beats.

The sounds are hot and meaty and your tracks will be professional enough to release on your next CD. There are tons of sounds to choose from and I’m sure more will be added. You get 16 tracks to create your music and beats on. The coolest thing is that you can save your mix to your hard drive when you are done. The site also gives you several pre-made beats you can download.

I have been making tracks for the past 15 years or so and having a good drum machine is always good to have. Most importantly you must have a drum machine that new sounds can be added to. Sonic Producer Pro can have new sounds added at will by the creators, so it’s future proof. The system is totally flash based. Really cool!

The cost of drum machines can start at around $150 for a really stripped down version up to 4,000.00 for the best. Sonic Producer Pro is only around $30.00!

Is it worth it? I had to buy it just to see the value of this online music system.

I love the concept and the setup of creating beats online, but here are the problems that I have encountered.

First off is the fact that you must be connected on the Internet and your connection must be a broadband, high speed connection. (but hey this is an online system!)

Secondly, when running the program, it glitches and throws my count off. I have Road Runner with Turbo Boost, so my connection is pretty darn fast. For me, it’s hard to focus on a beat if it keeps jumping.

Lastly, if you have Reasons or Fruity Loops, this program will not do you much good.

This system would be better if they sold you the system and allowed you to download it along with the sounds. When looking at the tutorials,I believe they are running it on the system and not from across the Internet and that’s why you don’t see the glitch. However, if you go to YouTube.com and search for Sonic Producer Pro, you will see others using it and you will see it glitch (a lot).

My conclusion:

I would recommend it but at the same time, if you can afford it, buy Reasons or Fruity Loops because you won’t go wrong with those.

Should you buy it? Hmmmm…… If you can deal with it having a hickup then sure, but if you hate having to stop bobbin your head while making the tracks, perhaps not. I will say this, once you have put your beat together, you can save it to your hard drive and use it your favorite recording software and there is no glitch/hickup once it is saved to the hard drive. The hickup only shows while you’re making your beat.
